Tujuan Umum Pendidikan Program Studi Sarjana Biologi

“Menghasilkan lulusan unggul, tangguh, dan menguasai prinsip-prinsip pemersatu Biologi, yang mampu menganalisis dan  mengatasi permasalahan ilmu kehayatan dengan pemikiran dan pendekatan terkini, serta memiliki kompetensi pendukung untuk mampu bersaing, mengembangkan diri, dan menyesuaikan diri terhadap kemajuan IPTEK dan perkembangan masyarakat secara nasional dan global”.

Tujuan Khusus Pendidikan Program Studi Sarjana Biologi

1. Membekali pengetahuan dasar biologi dan kerangka berpikir konseptual sehingga dapat mengidentifikasi hubungan antar prinsip-prinsip pemersatu dalam biologi serta mampu menjawab tantangan dan masalah kehayatian di masa mendatang.
2. Mengembangkan kemampuan berfikir, menganalisis dan menyelesaikan permasalahan secara ilmiah.
3. Mempersiapkan lulusan yang mampu menguasai teknologi informasi dalam bidang sains dan teknologi hayati.
4. Mengintegrasikan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan sikap ilmiah sebagai landasan dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan di bidang sains dan teknologi hayati.
5. Membekali dasar-dasar pengelolaan sistem hayati.

[:en]In this 21st century, challenges faced by the scientific discipline and professionals related to UPB include societal demands for the fulfillment of food, health, energy, and a sustainable environment. These require competent graduates of Biology who are able to apply their knowledge and produce innovations to answer those demands and human needs at a national as well as global scale.

The Undergraduate Program in Biology (UPB) aims to produce highly qualified graduates with sound knowledge of biology and its integrating principles, who are able to solve problems in life sciences using scientific reasoning and the most current methodological approach, and demonstrate supporting competences to compete, develop, and adapt to advances in science and technology, as well as to changes in society at the national and global levels.

The stated objectives are achieved by producing graduates who have the ability to:

• demonstrate understanding of biology and the conceptual framework to identify its integrating principles.
• integrate their knowledge, skills, scientific mindset and social competences to solve problems and face challenges related to life sciences.

The programme is designed as a broad (general) Biology degree programme to produce well- rounded, trainable biologists. While there is some specialization during the student’s final research project, the student is expected to graduate as a general biologist, distinguished from graduates of other programmes by his/her strong background understanding in core biology concepts and related skills and competences. The programme educational objectives and learning outcomes are expected to equip the graduate with life skills required to develop and adapt to the wide spectrum of possible occupations. UPB graduates will have a broad occupational area. Their occupational profile includes researcher, teacher/lecturer, entrepreneur, consultant, mass media practitioner etc., and they may work in industry, academia, or government.[:]
